Status:

Ajax13 is a free web-based office suite including word processor (ajaxWrite), spreadsheet (ajaxXLS), presentations (ajaxPresents), drawing (ajaxSketch), and more. It requires Firefox 1.5+ to run.

ajaxSketch uses the SVG format natively. ajaxXLS Viewer is available, but the web-based spreadsheet editor is still in development.

Review method: Daniel tested ajaxWrite on several sample documents. Jean tested ajaxPresents by importing and exporting a sample .odp file, and ajaxXLS by importing a sample .ods file.

Notes: (Daniel, re ajaxWrite) Support is surprisingly good for a web-based word processor. It even managed to open a 700-page document without problems. It did have problems with wide tables on a landscape document. It didn't seem to realize that the document was landscape and the tables ended up going out of the page. Over all, it looks good.

(Jean, re ajaxPresents and ajaxXLS) .ODP import and export worked, but there seems to be some incompatibilities between the file as viewed/edited in ajaxPresents and in OpenOpenOffice.org. More testing is needed to determine the extent of the incompatibilities. .ODS import worked, but with some minor layout problems (for example, cells with wrapped lines of text did not wrap but instead overlapped the text in the column to the right).
