Fellowship to fund ODF development

25 Aug 2006

Thanks to various donors who wish to remain anonymous the Fellowship now has $37,000 (USD) to invest in development projects for OpenDocument. These projects are very strategic. They provide a huge benefit to ODF for only a modest effort.

A big thank you to our donors!!

The donations are provided through the Fellowship's Targeted Donations Programme. We presented potential donors with a list of key projects to further OpenDocument and three of those were selected for funding:

OpenFormula bounties
We will offer per-formula rewards to the volunteers at the OASIS ODF Formula Sub-Committee as a recognition for their excellent work.
ODF Tools
The Fellowship's ODF Tools will be expanded to support conversion of ODF spreadsheets and presentations to HTML and converting HTML to OpenDocument.
ODF Viewer
The Fellowship's ODF Viewer will receive support to add important functionality and polish including a port to the Mac OS X platform.

If you are thinking of donating for one of these projects, please take a look at that list and contact Daniel Carrera (me) and Jean Hollis Weber for more information.

Stay tuned for more details coming in the following weeks.
