OpenDocument Viewer Beta Released
***DRAFT PRESS RELEASE***
OpenDocument Viewer Beta Released
The beta release of The OpenDocument Fellowship's cross-platform OpenDocument Viewer is available for testing.
Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X users can download installation packages for the beta version from the viewer's project page at the OpenDocument Fellowship: http://opendocumentfellowship.org/odfviewer.
The OpenDocument Viewer is suitable for people who do not have a copy of OpenOffice.org, KOffice, or some other program that supports files in OpenDocument format.
The viewer includes most features you'd expect, such as a search function, document properties, etc. Developers can use it to view the ODF source of a document. The OpenDocument Viewer supports text (.odt), spreadsheet (.ods) and presentation (.odp) files. While format support is not perfect, most documents render well.
The OpenDocument Fellowship has been able to fund the necessary development work for this project. Four developers, Alex Hudson, Daniel Carrera, Eugene Prigorodov, and Roman Fordinal contributed to the viewer. The OpenDocument Fellowship itself is a volunteer organisation with members around the world. Its goal is to promote the use and development of the OpenDocument format.
